Questions? I've Got Answers!
1. Q: What subjects and tests do you tutor?

A: I’ve been tutoring SAT and ACT prep since I was an undergrad at UC Irvine in 2001. I help students master every section of both exams, and I’ve been doing this continuously for over 20 years. I also hold Master’s degrees in Teaching and History, and I’m credentialed to teach Social Science in California. I work with students on all AP History courses (U.S., World, and European), American Government, Comparative Government, and AP Human Geography. I also coach academic writing for AP Language, AP Literature, research papers, and college admissions essays.
2. Q: How does a typical tutoring session work?
A: I approach each first session like a good doctor approaches a new patient: by asking questions and diagnosing what’s really going on. I want to know what’s working and what’s not—what the student has tried, what they’re struggling with, and how they’re feeling about it all. Then, I build a plan tailored to their needs. Whether we’re dealing with time management, writing structure, reading comprehension, or just confidence, I’ve seen it—and I know how to fix it. I always offer a professional opinion about the best course of action, but the plan is collaborative. Students and parents are partners in that process.
3. Q: What’s your teaching style like?
A: I lead with empathy and make it clear from the start that I’m on the student’s team. I want them to feel comfortable, supported, and like they can be themselves with me. I use humor, honesty, and a ton of experience to connect with students and get buy-in. Once we’ve built trust, I shift focus to the material. I give students real examples, show them what they’ll be expected to do, and help them get confident with the process. I care deeply about results—but also about how we get there.
4. Q: How do I book a session with you?
A: You can book a free consultation directly through the “Book a Consultation” button on this page. You'll be able to pick a time that works for you and tell me a little about what you're looking for.
5. Q: Do you offer in-person sessions or are you online only?
A: All tutoring is currently offered online via Zoom, which allows for flexible scheduling and effective screen-sharing of test materials, essay drafts, or historical documents. I’ve found it works great—even for students who were skeptical at first.
6. Q: How often do most students meet with you?
A: It depends on the student’s goals, deadlines, and availability. Some students meet weekly for consistent support; others work with me intensively for a few weeks before a big exam or paper. We’ll figure out a schedule that makes sense during our consultation.
7. Q: What kinds of academic or test prep results do students achieve with your tutoring?
A: Students I work with typically see significant improvements in both their test scores and their day-to-day academics. Many of my SAT/ACT prep students have boosted their scores substantially: it’s not uncommon to see SAT or ACT scores rise by 30% from where a student started to where they end up when they submit their composite scores on college applications. In school, I’ve helped students transform their writing from shaky or average to clear, well-structured, A-level work. History and social science students often report jumping from struggling, to scoring 4’s and 5’s on their AP exams. Beyond the numbers, one of the biggest “results” is confidence: as we tackle challenges with a structured, supportive approach, students become far less anxious and more self-assured in their abilities. They walk into tests and turn in essays feeling prepared and confident. And that change in mindset often leads to lasting success across all their academic pursuits.
8. Q: Do you work with students who are struggling, or just those aiming for top scores?
A: I work with students across the spectrum—from those trying to break through a plateau to those just trying to keep up. My goal is always the same: help each student build confidence, gain skills, and feel proud of their progress.
